Masonic Temple and Scottish Rite Cathedral

Scranton-Masonic-Temple-and-Scottish-Rite-CathedralThe Masonic Temple and Scottish Rite Cathedral is now known as the Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple. It is a theater and cultural center located in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The Center’s mission is to rejuvenate a national architectural structure as a regional center for arts, education and community activities appealing to all ages.

The building was completed in 1930 and Architect Raymond Hood designed the Masonic Temple and Scottish Rite Cathedral which houses the Scranton Cultural Center. The Masonic Temple is designed in a combination of Gothic Revival architecture and Romanesque Revival.

Catlin House Museum

Catlin House is where the Lackawanna Historical Society is headquartered. It is located in Scranton’s Hill Section. The House is the former home of George H. Catlin. He is an early financier in the city and his wife, Helen. The home is one of Scranton’s architectural treasures.

Catlin House was designed by architect Edward Langley and was built in 1912. The Tudor Revival style home is a stately example of the upper class homes of its time. The house was bequeathed to the Lackawanna Historical Society by Mr. Catlin. He is a lifetime member of the Society and he died in 1935.
